ePN TV: Brian Marcus Wants Publisher V.O.T.E.S. in 2013

This week on ePN TV, Brian Marcus, the Director of the Global eBay Partner Network, is laying out his vision for the future of the program. Interestingly, his chosen acronym ties in nicely with the recently wrapped-up election season here in the U.S.. Simply put, V.O.T.E.S. stands for Valuable, Open, Transparent, Easy and Scalable and in this episode Brian will explain how we plan to make that happen in the coming months.

We’re excited to share the 2013 vision for ePN and the value proposition it extends to our partners. If you have questions about any of the things that Brian discussed, please feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Don’t forget, the ePN Blog can now be delivered right to your inbox. Simply enter your email address in the right-hand sidebar in the section titled “Subscribe by email” and follow the instructions.

I was trying to figure out is there any change that is going to happen for us and I was watching video 2 times and my conclusion is you guys do bunch of things in the background improving the program but for average publisher nothing important is going to change.

To build on Zoran’s comment I have a few suggestions

    Idea 1

How about some sort of publisher API ‘auto’ optimisation’ function? By this I mean – auto item statistic number crunching. So Perhaps a message as follows – “We have detected that X items are selling the best over the last month” please tick here if you would like the API to display more x items items.

My point is, its very unlikely that every publisher has the manpower to spend days studying EPN stats excel document pivot tables to try to optimise what items they display to visitors.

You guys have all the data! – Why not build some feedback / suggestion loops to assist us?

You could build in a/b testing options

a = the way the publisher has set it up

b = the way EPN stats suggest more income being possible

If you think about it – you could even develop item variation that shifts over time of day.

X items sell well when people are accessing the web during the day

Y items sell better when people are accessing the web after 6 pm

Z items sell better when people are accessingthe web late at night.

    Idea 2

Also can we PLEASE have daily totals emailed to us once a day? Its a drag having to check in manually for them.

    Many thanks,

Zoran – Thanks for your comment. You’re right, we are working on lots of things behind the scenes to improve the program. But, we believe they WILL affect the average publisher in a very positive way. We hope you’ll give us the chance to show you that in 2013!

Great suggestions Jules. Thanks for taking the time to share them. I am about to head into an all-day planning meeting with our Product Team and will be sharing your comments.

Did you know that the ePN login/portal offers some automated download capabilities? As in, login to your ePN account via 1 URL and retrieve a report.

I don’t have a complete solution for you, but you may be able to poke around on the web and find some software (whether web-based, or locally-installed) to make a web-request periodically/daily and email you the response.

Here’s more info on this from the ePN side of things:

If you do find a service for this, if it’s web-based (or even if not) beware that you’d need to furnish them your ePN login credentials for it to work. (At the very least, create a 2nd user in your ePN account, without Admin privileges.)
