Top 10 WordPress Plug-Ins for Internet Marketers
June 25th, 2010
WordPress offers many useful plug-ins that can simplify your daily tasks. We’ve listed ten here that we think you should check out that may help streamline your business (in no particular order):
- Platinum SEO Pack automates search engine optimization for WordPress blogs. Some of the features of this plug-in include:
- Optimized Post and Page Titles for search engines
- Generates all SEO relevant META tags automatically
- Helps you avoid duplicate content
- Add index, noindex, follow or nofollow, noarchive, nosnippet, noodp, noydir meta tags to any post/page
- GoCodes is great for affiliate marketers, as it allows you to mask long affiliate program URLs and have those URLs blend in with your site more seamlessly by allowing you to create the URL to look like an extension of your own domain name.
- Robots Meta is a helpful plug-in that allows you to control which of your pages are indexed.
- SMS Text Message is an interesting widget that you can incorporate into your WordPress site, which allows your visitors to submit their cell phone number and receive updates and alerts from you via SMS.
- TestIt is a great tool for those of you A/B split testers. This plug-in allows you to perform tests on variations of posts and then see which post generated more clicks within the WordPress Admin.
- Google Analyticator makes it possible to utilize Google Analytics without having to implement the actual tracking code to your site. In addition, it also includes widgets that will display data right in the WP Admin.
- BackType Tweetcount allows your visitors to easily retweet a link to your post without forcing them to authorize the program to access their Twitter account by providing their username and password to do so. This plug-in also shows you how many times your posts are being mentioned in Twitter.
- WP-Affiliate makes it simple to mask affiliate links and now has the ability to search Commission Junction and track clicks.
- Insights is a great tool to search, edit and insert links easily into your posts. You can also insert images, videos and more with this plug-in.
- WordPress.com Stats is a simple way to view and analyze only the stats that really matter to writers. It includes a link in your WP Admin where you can see all of this data on a single page.
As always, if there are WordPress plug-ins that you couldn’t live without, please feel free to leave a comment and share with us what you find to be most useful.

Keyword Statistics is also a great plug-in. It’s especially useful for SEO, as it counts the density of certain keywords, and you can set automatically said words.

I use WPNoFollow All Post Links, for not giving up the PR on my site. You get to have an entire category (or several) that automatically appends the links with a “nofollow” so the spiders don’t go and give the linked site your vote.

I’ve tried BackType Tweetcount but it slows the page load time due to having to check tweeter to see how many times its been tweeted,.

I have written a plug-in that integrates into Wordpress for all affiliate marketers utilizing CJ and eBay Partner Network. You can download them at http://cjAffiliateShop.com or find more information at http://phpPig.org.
The plug-in works so seamlessly on the front end of the site, it looks like you search through affiliate listings to add the product(s) to your post. With the cj plugin, you are able to choose your advertiser, keywords, and amount of listings to display. With the EPN plug-in, you are able to add products based on keywords and amount of products to display.

Another highly touted Wordpress plugin is Google XML Sitemap. This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com to better index your blog.

Problem with gowords is that development stopped after compatibility with WordPress 2.8
Far better now to use PrettyLinks which also allows each link to have nofollow and redirect type selected, plus whether or not to append additional data such as all the gubbins that makes up an ePN affiliate link.
Interesting post, though it would have been better with deeper detail such as the plugin by plugin reviews that appeared on BuildaSkill.com under their series of blog reviews under the WordPress Plugins for eBay Sellers series – those went into the do’s and dont’s for both eBay sellers and for affiliate marketers in some depth. The series is about a year old now, but still very relevant after the recent ePN 301/302 link type policy changes.

p.s. – add one vote for WordBay as a must have plugin for ePN affiliates using WordPress

For me wp-backup is always the very first plugin I install and setup. It emails me daily a complete backup of all my Wordpress files. As an affiliate, it can take a lot of effort to log into your account, find your affiliate url and then use it in a post … so if you lose all your postings to date then it might be enough to make you give up!
I also use All-in-One SEO and Keyword Search. WP Stats are good, but I think needing the API can be offputting for new starters.
There are lots of great affiliate plugins, not enough time to try them all though is there

nice list but I would have gone with All In One SEO pack instead of Platinum SEO Paxk – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/
