I totally agree. The less complicated this is, the better experience your partners will have–and in the long run, the more money eBay stands to make. I’d rather spend time creating links than figuring out whether I’m going to get credit because I didn’t follow an assortment of rules based on the type of link I’m creating, etc.

Hi Charlie

The widgets do not have built-in geo-targeting, neither editor kit nor custom banner. If you want to geo-target these tools, you have to do your own geo-detection and coding on your server.

Also, helios825 made a very good comment: make sure you’re accepted to all the programs you’re sending traffic to, otherwise the geo-targeting will not work for you.
AND: if you were not accepted to a program and you apply and get accepted, YOU NEED TO RE-GENERATE the geo-targeting scripts on ePN, as they do not recognize program acceptance status changes.

Does Geo-targeting work for Widgets (ie. Editors Kits or Custom Banners)?

I added the search bar in the Creatives Generator, but the Editor Kits are better than plain banners on my site.

So for a person in the US I use “rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1…..mpre=http://cgi.ebay.com/…..” and for someone in the UK I use “rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1…..mpre=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/…..”.

Is that correct? If so Dave that may answer your question too (I hope).

Thanks for this great post. I like the trend I’m seeing in recent blog posts whereby you’re offering more in-depth technical info that helps those of us who dig into implementation a little deeper (API, dynamically-built links, etc.) than many affiliates.

Dave: Are all of your links geotargeting-enabled Javascript links obtained from the ePN Tools pages? You might need to double-check that. Also, make sure you are active/approved in each of those 4 eBay programs (check the “Programs” screen). Not everyone gets approved for all programs upon signing up for ePN, from what I hear.

Will someone please explain all this in simple, easy to understand English ? I have a UK based website and link to eBay sites in France, the USA, Canada and the UK. I am currently only earing revenue for France and the UK even though I get lots of click on the other links. What am I doing wrong ?
